Drug Uses


Famvir successfully treats genital herpes, simplex virus infections such as cold sores in patients suffering from AIDS and herpes zoster. It also suppresses the infection, before the herpes has appeared, in otherwise healthy patients.


How Taken


Take only under your doctor’s prescription. Do not take more or less of Famvir than instructed. You can take this medicine on a full or empty stomach, it does not irritate it. Famvir can be prescribed in three occasions. The first one can be named episodic treatment. When the herpes occurs, take doses of 125mg, two times a day for five day period. The second case of usage is called suppressive treatment. It such cases, the genital herpes appear very often and special cure must be taken. Take dose of 250 mg twice a day for a period up to 1 year, in order to treat the virus and prevent appearing of outbreaks. The third treatment is meant for patients with HIV. They should take 500 mg twice a day for a 7 days-period, by herpes simplex.


Missed Dose


Try not to miss your daily doses of Famvir. In case it happens, take the missed dose as soon as you can. Do not double up the doses if the time for the next regular one has come. Then go back to you schedule.


Storage


Store Famvir drug at a room temperature from 15C to 30C (59F and 86F).Keep away from direct light and moisture. Keep away from children’s reach.


Overdose


There are not reported symptoms of overdose with Famvir. If you suspect overdose, seek immediately medical attention and visit the local poison center. It is possible to experience seizure, dizziness and hallucinations. Overdosing can cause kidney problems.

You can start taking Famvir as soon as the first symptoms of herpes appear. They can be blisters, skin irritation, tingling and burning and itching of the skin. The soonest you start taking the medicine, the faster will be the result of it. Do not stop taking Famvir before your treatment is completely over. Possible side effects during treatment with Famvir may occur. The most serous can be allergic reaction with symptoms as difficult breathing, swelling of the lips, throat, tongue, face or hives. The patient may also experience nausea, headache, diarrhea, dizziness, vomiting, itching in the feet or hands. If you notice something bothersome call your doctor and seek medical attention.
