Product Description

Acyclovir drug is used as an addition when treating herpes and other skin infections. It is mainly used for herpes on the lips, skin, genitals, herpes zoster, shingles and chickenpox. Acyclovir can not cure the infection, but only relief pain and helps healing. It is an attendant product which is prescribed in combination with other stronger medicines for better results. It can be used as prevention from coming back infection.

Acyclovir comes as tablets, only for oral taken. Swallow the drug with water or other liquid and do not split, smash or chew. You can take on full or empty stomach; it does not reach on it. Discuss with your health provider the best dosage for your condition and take the doses at regular intervals. Do not stop taking Acyclvir before your cure course is over, even if you feel better. Do not exceed the prescribed dose. In case of children patient, special dosage adjustment and care must be needed. Consultation with pediatrician is advisable.

It is very important not to take more doses than prescribed. In case you have missed your regular schedule, take a dose as you as you remember it. If the time for the next one has come, take only one dose.

For best results keep Acyclovir at a room temperature between 15° and 25°C (59° and 77°F). Protect from children and beware of the expiration date. Keep away from direct sun light and moisture.

Overdose is reported following bonus injections and when taking higher doses than prescribed with patients whose fluid and electrolyte balance were not properly monitored. The possible conditions are seizures, agitation, lethargy or even coma. Overdose may cause severe problems with the renal function and even can lead to haemodialysis, until the normal function of the renal is restored.

It is very important for your best care to inform your health care provider if you taking any other drugs. Please note that even non-prescribed drugs as herbal products and nutritional supplements should be named. Notice your doctor if you drink alcohol and caffeine drinks a lot. It is a must to know, if you are drug addict. All these substances can reach with Acyclovir and should be taken very precisely. Your doctor will give you the proper dosage and schedule for acceptance.

Safety Information

Do not take Acyclovir in case you are pregnant or you plan to become pregnant. This medicine is not recommended if you are breast-feeder. Patients with problematic renal impairment should be strictly supervised and special adjusted in the dosage. Acyclovir drug reacts on renal dysfunction and central nervous system and should be carefully prescribed on patients receiving potentially nephrotoxic agents. When you have Herpes Zoster, you should start taking Acyclovir as soon as you have been diagnosed. You should be aware that in case of Genital Herpes Infections, this drug is only supportive agent and can not cure the infection. In case you suffer Chickenpox, better start taking Acyclovir within the first 24 hours. Usually it is a self limited disease and it passes easier by children then by adults. There is no registered information what happens if you start taking this medicine later than the first 24 hours.

Side Effect

There are a lot of side effects, which the patient may suffer. They are most likely to appear as increased thirst, redness, stomach pain and discomfort, unusual weakness and confusion, hallucinations or seizures. Also possible reactions might be skin rash, tremor, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, peeling of the skin and skin irritation, loosening of the skin and other skin texture changes. These changes could be caused by irregular dosage and way the infection is treated. If you suffer any not so severe side effects as loss of appetite, increased sensitivity to the sun, vomiting, it may not be necessary to stop taking Acyclovir.
