Norvasc medicine is prescribed in case of hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina (chest pain). It belongs to the group of calcium channel blockers. Norvasc action is to widen the blood vessels and make easier for the heart to pump blood. There are other cases of application of Norvasc, contact your doctor for further information.
How Taken
Norvasc drug is produced as tablets, taken orally. Unless something else prescribed, take Norvasc once a day. Better take it on a full stomac with water or milk, in order to avoid stomach upset. It is possible during treatment with Norvasc to reduce the salt in your meal, and generally to stop taking salt substances containing potassium. Your doctor will advise you about the proper nutrition while taking Norvasc.
Missed Dose
Norvasc medicine is taken only once a day. If it happens to miss your daily dose, take it as soon as you can. If the time for you regular dose has come, take only one of it. Do not overdose by trying to catch up.
Storage
Keep Norvasc in its original container, tightly close and away from heat and moisture. Keep at room temperature between 59° and 86°F (15° to 30°C). Store Norvasc where children can not reach it.
Overdose
Do not overdose with Norvasc. Overdosing can not increase the effect of it. The symptoms of overdose may include excessive peripheral vasodilatation with marked hypotension, dizziness, weakness, problematic breathing, unconsciousness, irregular heartbeat, confusion, lack of orientation, problems with the speech, reflex tachycardia or even coma. If you suspect overdose, contact your doctor immediately and look for medical assistance.

Before start treatment with Norvasc, advise your doctor about your medical history. For patients over 65 years of age, it is more likely side effects to be experienced. These patients may require special dosage adjustment and monitoring during treatment with Norvasc.

Side effects during treatment with Norvasc can be expected. If you notice something bothersome and unusual about your health condition, stop taking Norvasc and contact your medical provider. Most serious side effects might include allergic reaction, accompanied with swelling of the face, lips, throat, hives, irregular heartbeat, fainting, and unconsciousness, psychosis, swelling of the legs and ankles or jaundice. By other less serious side effects, you may continue treatment with Norvasc, but only after your doctor’s approval. These side effects might be headache, insomnia, flushing, bothersome sleep accompanied by abnormal sleep, sleepiness, nausea, diarrhea, problems with urination or abdominal pain.
