Drug Uses


Aldactone drug is a hormone regulator, in the class called potassium diuretics. It treats potassium deficiency (hormonal disorder), reduced the amount of the fluid in the body and in the meantime do not cause loss of potassoium. Aldactone is also reacts on edema (swelling) and hyperertebsion.


How Taken


Take Aldactone exactly as prescribed by your health provider. It is usually taken once or twice a day, with meal (usually breakfast and lunch). This drug comes in a tablets taken orally. Follow strictly your prescription without exceeding or decreasing the quantities. It is not recommended to stop taking Aldactone without your doctor’s approval. Remember that it controls the high blood pressure, but it does not cure it.


Missed Dose


Do not increase your dose, in case you have missed one dose. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it, or take the next scheduled dose if it is almost time for it.


Storage


Store Aldactone in its original container tightly closed. The best temperature is between 15° and 25°C (59° and 77°F). Keep away of children reach and avoid excessive heat and moisture. Check the drug for expiry date.


Overdose


If you have taken more pills than prescribed, call your doctor immediately. You may experience drowsiness, mental confusion, vomiting, dizziness or nausea. These are the most common symptoms of overdose.

Warnings/Precautions


It might be not suitable for you to take Aldactone in case you suffer from liver disease, diabetes mellitus, have high blood pressure. Do not take this drug if you are taking a potassium supplement or angiotensin-convering-ebzyme inhibitor (ACE inhibitor). Even if you take Aldactone and suffer from the diseases listed above, you will need special dosage adjustment and constant monitoring during treatment. Aldactone is in the FDA pregnancy category D, which is know to harm an unborn baby. Consult your doctor in case you are a breast – feeder.

Possible Side Effects


The possible side effects appear as: allergic reaction by difficult breathing, unusual heartbeat, fatigue, sudden weakness and confusion, swelling of the lips, tongue, hives or face. It also affects the high levels of the potassium in patient’s blood or increase urination. Other not so serious side effects may appear, which does not require stop using Aldactone, but need to be supervised by health supporter as soon as they appear ; diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, changes in the appetite, muscle cramps or lowering of the voice. Because of the influence over the hormones, possible side effect might be excessive hair growth or enlarged breasts.
