Amoxicillin drug is prescribed in cases of infections like pneumonia, tonsillitis, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhea. This medicine belongs to a class penicillin drugs and it is an antibiotic. It is also prescribed for skin irritations and infections.

Amoxicillin is produced in 4 different forms, to fit better your taste. For children it is most appropriate the liquid form, for adults there are chewed tablets, capsule and pediatric drop. All of the pills are taken orally, taken usually 3 times a day, during 8 hours period. Follow you doctor prescription and do not take more or less medicine than directed. If you take the liquid Amoxicillin and pediatric drops, shake the liquid well before taking. Use the bottler dropper if needed. The tablets should be chewed or divided before being swallowed. The capsules should be taken as once. The pediatric drops are put under the tongue and swallowed immediately. Always take Amoxicillin with water or other liquid. Even if you start feeling better, do not stop your treatment until it is over and without your doctor approval.

If you have missed your regular dose, ask you doctor if it is appropriate to take double dose. Otherwise take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Continue taking the rest doses for the day into equal intervals. If the time for the next taking has come, skip the missed dose and take only one.

The best way to safe your Amoxicillin medicine is in the fridge. The heat and the moisture can damage it. Do not freeze. Follow the directions for best storage on the label. Keep the original packing and store Amoxicillin in it. Keep away from children reach and throw away when it is outdated.

Do not overdose; it may lead to serious health problems. By overdose you may experience muscle spasms, pain in the upper or lower limbs, seizures, confusion, coma or agitation. If you suspect overdose, call your doctor right away.

In case you are taking birth control pills, be advised that Amoxicillin can decrease their effect. It is advisable to use alternative birth control method, while taking Amoxicillin. Contact your health provider, if you experience abdominal cramps or bloody diarrhea. Do not stop your treatment with Amoxicillin without your doctor approval. You may feel better, but the healing course must be over for entire recovery. The symptoms of infection may look improved, but not to be in fact.

Safety Information

You do not have to take Amoxicillin medicine if you are allergic to penicillin or cephalosporin. If you have any kidney or intestinal diseases, discuss with your doctor if this drug is suitable for you. Amoxicillin is in the FDA pregnancy category B and it is not expected to interfere on pregnancy. If you plan to become pregnant or you are a breast feeder, talk with your doctor before taking Amoxicillin. It is possible the drug to cause yeast infection, diarrhea or allergic reaction. No serious consequences are expected as a result.

Side Effect

If you notice any side effects during treatment with Amoxicillin, call your doctor immediately and stop taking this drug. The most serious side effects could be allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, closing of the throat, lips, tongue, unusual bleeding or bruising. If you experience diarrhea or abdominal cramps while taking Amoxicillin, seek for medical attention immediately. There are others, less serous side effect are possible. They do not force stop taking Amoxicillin: vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, white patches on the tongue, abdominal pain, vaginal yeast infection, black “hairy” tongue or sore mouth.
