Effexor XR medicine treats depression. It balances the two neurotransmitters in human’s body-serotonin and norepinephrine and in this way cures depression and relieves the symptoms of it.

Do not take Effexor XR medicine, without your doctor’s knowledge. It can be not suitable for your health condition, and even may worsen it. The usual dosage is 1 capsule per day, taken for a certain period of time – precisely pointed from your health provider. Do not chew, smash, divide or crush the dose. If you have problems with swallowing pills and capsules, take out the content of the capsule and mix it with water or food. Make sure you take all the quantity and drink fresh water afterwards, to insure the complete swallowing.

Missing your daily dose may worsen your depression. In case it happens to miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If the time for your regular taking has come, take only one dose, and then turn back to your schedule. Do not try to catch up by taking more than prescribed.

It is best to store Effexor XR at a controlled room temperature between 20C to 25C (68F to 77F). Keep away from children and moisture. Throw away the packing when it is out of date.

Do not overdose. Overdosing can seriously worsen your depression. The most common symptoms of overdose are dizziness, drowsiness, vomiting, irregular heartbeat, seizures and even unconsciousness. If you suspect overdose, seek medical attention immediately or go to the nearest poison center.

It is not recommended to drink alcohol and use any illegal drugs during treatment with Effexor XR. If you want to drink alcohol, do it cautiously. Effexor XR causes dizziness, drowsiness and you may feel yourselves uncoordinated. Avoid performing any hazard activities, operating with heavy machines and driving. Do not stop taking Effexor XR at once, because unpleasant side effects may appear.

Safety Information

Do not take Effexor XR in case you are using MAOIs. This medicine should be strictly taken and not mixed with any other drugs and over-the-counter medicines, without your doctor’s approval. If you are taking any antidepressants in combination with Effexor XR, you need to be constantly supervised. Possible side effects may appear such as having suicidal thoughts, become irritable, hostile, nervous, and restless or worsen the depression. If you experience any of the conditions listed above, call immediately your doctor and seek help. During treatment with Effexor XR it is possible your blood pressure to start changing. It can suddenly raise or decrease. Keep an eye on your blood pressure every day, and if you notice constant changing of its levels, contact your doctor. It is not recommended to stop taking Effexor XR at once, or suddenly reduce your daily dose. This may lead to worsen your health condition and side symptoms to take place. Advise you health provider is you plan to do any changes with your daily dose with Effexor XR. Act more cautiously when your drive, operate with machines or perform any hazard activities during treatment. Do not drink alcohol with Effexor XR. If you are pregnant or a breast-feeder, do not take any antidepressant, unless other prescribed from your doctor.

Side Effect

Possible side effects are likely to occur during treatment with Effexor XR. If you notice something bothersome and unusual about health condition, call your doctor and ask him for advice. You need to stop taking Effexor XR in any of the following conditions: allergic reaction with symptoms like swelling of the lips, face and tongue, difficult breathing, seizures, fainting, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure accompanied with blurred vision and strong headache. Other not serious side effect may also appear. They can be loss of appetite, abnormal ejaculation and sexual problems, loss of sex appetite, insomnia or uneasy sleep, dizziness, anxiety without particular reason, sweating, increasing blood cholesterol and others. In these cases, you may not need to stop taking Effexor XR, just reduce your dose after your doctor’s advice. When the side effects are gone, turn back to your regular schedule and continue treatment.
